The Role

You will provide care and support to young people in residential/educational programs through pastoral care and the teaching of independent living skills. You will be responsible for the weekend team and the planning of activities to compliment the teaching and learning taking place throughout the week.

• Working with young people affected by different types of vision concerns to teach independent living skills
• Creating engaging activities for the weekends to carry on from what was learned in the week and offer unique opportunities for new experiences
• Building trusting relationships with the young people and guiding them through new challenges
• Building a strong working relationship with the existing team
• Responsible for the day-to-day function of the hostel during the weekend hours
• Hours between 7:45am and 10:15pm , 10 hour shifts Thursday to Sunday

The Ideal candidate

• Have an understanding of the importance of strong relationships with young people in the centre while being able to manage professional boundaries effectiveness
• Have an understanding of and commitment to adhering to the Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• Have an interest in Maori and Pasifika cultures and a desire to be inclusive at the workplace and when working with families
• Personality/Character: high energy, enthusiasm, reliability, physically fit, outgoing, mature, common sense, high initiative, a genuine interest in people, approachable
• Excellent written and verbal communication and record keeping skills
• Competent with computers and software applications
• Has a full, clean, NZ Class 1 drivers license
• Comfortable working with a broad range of cultures, genders, and beliefs
