Health, Safety and Environmental Co-ordinator

Our client is a fourth-generation family business with traditional values of quality and customer service. From humble beginnings 90 years ago, our client employs over 120 staff across operations in NZ, Australia, and Thailand. They are a globally competitive premium chain supplier and contract manufacturer. Possessing over 20 years of experience in manufacturing and assembling machine-made and hand-made chains for leading retail, wholesale, and manufacturing customers.

This full-time role is based at the company's Onehunga factory and reports to the General Manager with a progression pathway to Health and Safety Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and continuously improve areas relating to Health and Safety
  • Oversee accident and incident investigations and follow through with any corrective actions
  • Administer Health and Safety compliance and database systems, including hazardous substance management, staff competency/training records, risk and hazard registers, and asset registers, use of Teamate
  • Maintain and update the Health and Safety compliance calendar, ensuring timely completion of regulatory inspections, emissions and trade waste testing, driver's license and permit renewals, and other statutory obligations.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies such as WorkSafe, ARC, auditors, inspectors, contractors, and consultants to ensure compliance obligations are met.
  • Monitor and report on resource consumption
  • Coordinate monthly Health and Safety meetings and manage the induction of new staff
  • Assist with the review and management of the company's Standard Operating Procedures Library to ensure they are current.
  • Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017.

The Candidate:

  • An adaptable personality that can adjust to changes or needs of the business quickly
  • Confidence is Health and Safety expertise and in making decisions around changes, best practices, and so on.
  • A self-starter, training and support are provided but a good foundation of the Health and Safety role and confidence to get into the work is ideal.
  • Formal qualification in health and safety coordination/management in an industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and related legislation and regulations. Experience with ISO45001 is desirable.
  • Experience in managing hazardous substance inventory is ideal and site location certification.
  • Communication skills and an ability to collaborate with others, such as regulatory agencies, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong analytic and reporting skills to monitor resource consumption and environmental impact.
