At Drake New Zealand, we strive to have a high standard of client communication. Over the past few weeks, we have been monitoring all communication from the Government and Ministry of Health in New Zealand. As we all know, the world is facing an unprecedented challenge. Like you, we want to do what we can to help keep our employees, Field Staff Employees, candidates, clients, and their families and communities safe and healthy during this time.


Here’s what we are doing:

  • The vast majority of our operations and staff are working remotely, except in essential services as required. 
  • Additional weekly screening of all FSE's, internal staff and candidates using a COVID-19 Health Questionnaire was implemented.
  • Continuously briefing employees, Field Staff and candidates on the importance of frequent hand washing and social distancing and have increased the availability of hand sanitiser and disinfectant wipes to maintain proper hygiene in all Drake locations across New Zealand.
  • Encouraging staff to utilise our Employee Assistance Programme if they need someone to speak with.
  • Offering our Field Staff access to speak to our Drake Medox Nurses for any health questions they may have.
  • Following all Government guidelines and acting as ambassadors to communicate all updated information.


As of Wednesday 25 March, all of our Drake New Zealand offices are closed. The team are working remotely from home, and still available by phone or email.

What happens if a Field Staff Employee falls ill or needs to self-isolate?

If a Field Staff Employee (FSE) becomes unwell or symptomatic, then:

Step 1 - Ask the FSE to go home if they are unwell or symptomatic.

Step 2 - Contact your Drake Consultant immediately on 0800 840 940.

Step 3 - The Drake Consultant will instruct the FSE to call Healthline. Healthline will assist in screening the staff member and give appropriate advice. 

Step 4 - If the staff member is told to self-isolate for safety, Drake will work on replacing their remaining shifts with the client until further notice. 

Step 4 - All affected parties will be kept informed of progress and a replacement will be found.

What if a Field Staff Employee or staff member tests positive for COVID-19?  

Step 1 – This employee should already be at home in self-isolation waiting for the results.

Step 2 - The employee would contact their Drake Consultant immediately on 0800 840 940 to advise them of the diagnosis.

Step 3 - Drake will inform the client immediately. 

Step 4 – Drake will inform every other Drake worker on-site and advise them to self-isolate until further notice.

Step 5 – Drake will attempt to provide a replacement team to provide continuation of services to the client once the site is confirmed as risk free. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Are employers entitled to a wage subsidy if they are significantly impacted by COVID-19?

Yes, but this subsidy must be passed directly to the employees. If your business is significantly impacted by COVID-19, there are  subsidies available that you can apply for.

The wage subsidy is $585.80 per week for a full time employee (20 hrs or more) or $350.00 per week for a part time employee (less than 20 hrs).

If the employer application is approved by the Government then the payment will be made as a lump sum for a period covering 12 weeks. These funds are to be distributed directly from the employer to the employees.

There is no maximum for the amount of assistance a business can receive. This is to enable more support for workers in medium and large sized businesses.

Can Field Staff Employees be requested to work from home?

This will be at the discretion of the client and Drake, and will be based on the job requirements and the ability of the Field Staff Employee to perform their duties remotely.
